Recipes - Breakfast Strata

Preheat 350°F oven

Grease a 13" by 9" deep baking pan
Medium mixing bowl

Ingredients:
2 cups bread, cubed
8 eggs
2 - 2 1/2 cups milk (use enough to cover bread when in pan)
6 slices American cheese
Salt & pepper to taste

Directions:
Grease baking pan.

Layer bread into bottom of pan.

Spread cheese across bread

In a bowl, whip together eggs and milk.

Pour egg mix over bread and cheese in pan.
Use a fork to push down floating bread so all pieces become wet.

Allow to sit for 5 minutes.

Place in oven on center rack.
Bake at 350°F until firm through the center (approx 1 hour).

Allow to cool for 15 minutes.
Cut into squares for serving.

Salt and pepper to taste.

The breakfast bake casserole can be made the night before, covered, and stored in the refrigerator until morning, when it can then be cooked and served.

This egg casserole is a great way to use up leftover, dry, stale bread and rolls!

Saute onions, kale, chard, spinach, mushrooms, peppers, and other veggies to make your breakfast bake a gourmet treat. Layer cooked veggies on the cheese before pouring over the egg mix and baking for a hearty anytime meal.

Crumble in cooked sausage, bacon, ham, or other meat with the bread to use leftovers and add a bold kick to your casserole.

Sprinkle grated cheese blends on top of the casserole in the last 15 minutes of baking to a crisp, flavorful topping.

Experiment with spices whipped into the egg mix, like curry powder, garlic and onion powder, dill, and Old Bay.
